Dell XPS 13 Continues To Be Called An Apple MacBook Air And MacBook Pro Killer

The Dell XPS 13 is the surprise Windows notebook of 2015. When first released, the International Business Times called it an Apple MacBook Pro killer. BGR cuts to the chase and says that the XPS 13 is better than the MacBook Air.

“I can say that the new Dell XPS 13 is good enough to pry a MacBook from my — albeit animate — hands. I’ve been using the redesigned 2015 XPS 13 for the last several months and it was surprisingly easy to relegate my MacBook to backup status.”

The review goes on to note that The Dell XPS 13 is only.6-inches thin (and that’s at it’s thickest point), is only 2.6 pounds (lighter than the MacBook Air), and has the performance capabilities of the MacBook Pro.

Yibada also lists several reasons why the Dell XPS 13 is better than the MacBook Air: It has a better build, it’s a better looking device, it has wider connectivity options, it boasts a 4K Ultra HD screen, and it is better for the price.

The Dell XPS 13 comes in three versions. There is the $899 version that has a 1080p screen, Intel Core i5-5200U processor, and 4GB RAM. Then, there is a $1,299 touchscreen Dell XPS 13 with a 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution screen, an Intel Core i5-5200U 2.20 GHz processor, and 8GB of RAM. The most expensive Dell XPS 13 costs $1,599, has the same touchscreen as the mid-version, has an Intel Core i7-5500U processor, and 8GB of RAM.

However, no matter how sharp the screens on the mid and high versions of the Dell XPS 13 are, there is one major problem — the screens have a grainy surface. Commenter ankit255 from the Dell Community forums talks about the problem.

“I bought the XPS 13 with QHD+ touchscreen display yesterday but notice something wrong with the screen…So my display has a slight grainy effect to it which makes it look like a layer of grease is on the screen when viewing very light or white backgrounds.”

In the past, this has been the norm with touchscreen laptops. However, this is no longer the case as the Surface Pro 3’s screen looks completely clean. Touchscreen laptops by HP and Samsung also don’t have the issue. If one doesn’t need the touchscreen, perhaps it’s better to get the non-touchscreen version of Dell’s laptop.

Besides the one display problem, the Dell XPS 13 is not only being compared to the MacBook Air, but the MacBook Pro as well. With the official Windows 10 update coming at the end of July, the Dell XPS 13 may just be the laptop manufacturers aim to beat.
