Former ‘Star Wars’ Child Actor Jake Lloyd Arrested For Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest


Jake Lloyd, best known for playing a young Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, was arrested on Wednesday by Colleton County Sheriff’s deputies in Charleston, South Carolina, according to TMZ. Lloyd, 26-years-old, allegedly led police on a high-speed chase and now faces charges for reckless driving, failure to stop, resisting arrest, and driving without a license.

The chase began when sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull Jake over and lasted over 25 miles, spanning two counties. Lloyd drove off Interstate 95 and plowed through a fence. Jake reportedly lost control of his vehicle and hit several trees where the vehicle then came to a stop.

A police spokesperson gave E! News a statement on the events surrounding Lloyd’s arrest.

“On Wednesday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., we received a call from the Charleston County office…we were told a car had crossed over county lines into our county, Colleton County. The car was speeding and passed over double yellow lines. We were able to find the car that matched the description and the chase ensued.”

“We initiated blue lights and the car continued onward. The car drove through the woods and wrecked out after having crashed through a small fence and a number of trees. He was apprehended at that time, about 2 p.m. The chase had been going on for about 20 minutes before his arrest.”

“He resisted arrest and once handcuffed, we had trouble getting information out of him. He told police his name was Jake Broadbent. He was quiet and didn’t say a lot. He was alone.”

Jake Lloyd’s identity has been confirmed as the ex-child star through a former talent agent, Sgt. Kyle Strickland said Sunday. When Jake was arrested, he gave his name as Jake Broadbent, according to Sgt. Strickland. His birth date and home town matched that of the actor’s on IMDB.

Sgt. Strickland also said Jake Lloyd hit speeds over 100 miles an hour during the car chase. Jake did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and no field sobriety test was given. Lloyd is due in court in July.

Jake’s bail was set at over $10,000, and according to records as of Sunday, he remains in the Colleton County Detention Center.
