‘Outlander’ Spoilers: Showrunner Ron Moore Promises Season 2 ‘Will Not Look Anything Like Season 1’

While Outlander is currently filming in Dysart Harbor, Scotland, some recently leaked photos offer a behind the scenes look at how Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will look in Season 2. Heughan and Balfe will be once again appearing as Jamie and Claire in the time-traveling drama, which will see the couple in France during the new season.

One of the photos released on Twitter depicts Balfe in a period brown dress, while another shows Heughan waving to fans with a bandaged left hand. Further, some of the photos also reveal that Duncan Lacroix will be joining Claire and Jamie in France as Murtagh Fraser.

With the show coming off a strong first season, Ron Moore recently sat down with Deadline and discussed the changes that will come about in Season 2 and how it will differ from the books.

“The general plan is probably to try to do a book a season,” Moore revealed. “Some of the books are bigger than others so we’ve definitely had conversations about, ‘well, you know, at some point we may need to split a book into two seasons,’ but right now we’re not there yet.”

While the second season of Outlander is based off Dragonfly In Amber, Moore went on to relate how the new season won’t follow the book exactly.

“There will be twists and turns that aren’t in the book. The second book is more complex than the first book is. It’s a little tougher challenge to adapt it,” he stated, adding “It’s not going to look anything like Season 1, so you’re really kind of prepping and shooting a while new TV show into the second year. It has a lot of, you know, ‘oh my God, what can we do,’ those kind of moments to it.”

“In probably every which way you can think of, it’s going to be different than Season 1 was, which I think is one of the strengths of the series overall: its continuing evolution,” executive producer Ronald D. Moore recently told TVLine.

In more Outlander news, Laurence Dobiesz will appear in Season 2 of the Starz drama as Alex Randall, the younger brother of the villainous Jack Randall, according to The Wrap.

Yes, there is another Randall out there that Claire and Jamie will have to deal with. Alex Randall, is not as sick as his brother, and serves as a secretary to the Duke of Sandringham. The Frasers will run into the Duke while in France. To tell fans of the series – who have not read the books – anything further about the younger Randall would be a major spoiler alert.

Outlander season 2 is currently shooting and is expected to premiere sometime in 2016.
