Carnie Wilson’s Weight Loss Surgery Derails Wilson Phillips Tour

The announcement that Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson was undergoing a second weight-loss surgery in addition to the widely covered one she had several years ago got the original girl group back in the headlines just ahead of their reunion tour and the debut of TV Guide reality show Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On.

Wilson’s struggle with weight is for better or worse one of the more notable things about the band- the singer even appeared on Celebrity Fit Club a few years back in an attempt to take off some of the weight she gained during her two pregnancies. But while the on and off struggle is usually a publicity boon for the band, Wilson revealed during the most recent episode that because of her ongoing recovery, she doesn’t foresee being able to perform for some of the band’s upcoming gigs.

Bandmates Chynna Phillips and Wendy Wilson visited Carnie while she recovered, asking whether she planned on performing in New Orleans. Wilson hedged, finally answering:

“I’m not happy about it. But… I don’t think so, you guys.”

Chynna replied:

“Why are you springing this on us today? I guess I’m just a little taken aback, because usually you’re the one who is so anal about the schedule.”

Wilson’s decision to undergo a second surgery has itself been somewhat controversial- but the singer defended her choice to submit a second time to the procedure, previously saying:

“I was at the point where I did need intervention. I’m 44 this month. I needed to take action. I needed to help myself again. What I feel now- I feel the sensation of being full quickly, which I was not feeling.”

Carnie Wilson is currently starring in Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On, on the TV Guide Network at 9PM Sundays.
