Despite Rumors, Britney Spears’ Album Is Not Cancelled

Recently word began spreading that Britney Spears’ new album will not be released. However, these rumors have been verified to be completely false. The pop star’s latest album will be released as planned.

The rumor began circulating via the popular social media site Twitter and then made its way into various blogs as an after-effect of the initial tweet. Gossip Cop makes note of the initial source of the rumor, stating, “According to a music-centric Twitter account with the handle @MusicBizSpy, ‘Britney’s label is considering cancelling her album release due to failure of ‘Pretty Girls’ to impact on sales and AirPlay.’ But it’s all untrue.”

The latest single, “Pretty Girls,” which involves a collaboration with Iggy Azalea, was released mere weeks ago and a performance of the song by the two made its way into last Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. The single was met with welcome applause and seemed well-received. As the publication recognizes, “Their performance also mimicked the video for ‘Pretty Girls,’ which is a homage to the ’80s comedy Earth Girls Are Easy, featuring Spears as a Valley Girl and Azalea as an alien.”

During the performance, the Daily Mail relays that Spears left very little to the imagination while, “Covering the majority of her shapely pins were PVC thigh-high boots for a saucy dominatrix feel.” Iggy went the metallic mini skirt route and paired it with a halterneck cropped top with pink locks to match.

As it stands to date, the latest single “Pretty Girls” actually holds the 29th spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and sits at no. 23 on the mainstream top 40 chart. And while Iggy admits that the track is mainly the work of Britney, she added that she helped spice up the track stating, “I rewrote parts of it.”

The upcoming album has yet to be given a name or a release date, however it has been a topic of discussion for the pop princess over the course of the past year. Her Las Vegas residency at the AXIS and Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino has also been keeping Britney busy.

As for an associated tour to go along with this soon-to-be-released album, Mediamass shares the small bit of info that is known.

“Britney Spears is rumoured to be planning a worldwide tour at the end of 2016. When contacted, a representative had no information on a new album, or any of the singer’s future plans. This isn’t the first time in recent memory reports have surfaced about Britney Spears recording sessions. Fans will be anxiously awaiting.”
