With reports that more than 3,000 lives have been lost since the devastating magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit Nepal on Saturday, people now want to know how to help Nepal recover. Seriously. Facebook and Google both have applications where you can check in and let people know where you are in the world. For those of you who are in Nepal and are safe, you can use either of these apps to let family members and loved ones that you are safe. However, please don’t use these apps for any other purpose than to report factually on whether you are in the area and safe or not. People have reported on social media the fact people are using these apps as a “joke.” It’s not a joke to report you are in the area when you are not, and it is certainly not a way to help Nepal and the aide workers on the scene.

Donate On Facebook

Helping Nepal is as easy as using your Facebook account. The following is according to The Next Web.

“The social network announced that it is rolling out a banner message on news feeds that will allow you to make a donation to International Medical Corps to support its response teams on the ground.

Facebook will be matching every dollar donated (up to $2 million).”
