Reggie Bush Misses Practice, Says He Can Break Rushing Record

Reggie Bush is in the middle of one of his most productive seasons in the NFL. Bush recently became the 12th Miami Dolphin to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and the former New Orleans Saints running back says that despite a career that has been plagued by injuries, he’s capable of setting some rushing records.

Bush told ProFootballTalk:

“I feel like there’s so much more, This is just the tip of the iceberg… No disrespect to anyone, but I’ve spent a lot of time studying different players, including Chris Johnson.  I’ve watched a ton of his runs, especially during his 2,000-yard season.  And yeah, I feel like I’m capable of that, but I’m not worrying about that yet.

“My mental focus is entirely on this next game.  If I wasn’t, my priorities would be backward, and I wouldn’t be setting myself up to accomplish any of this.”

In order to have a 2,000 yard season Bush will need to keep himself on the field. Bush hasn’t completed a 16-game season since his rookie year with the Saints. According to Bleacher Report, he missed four games in 2007, six in 2008, two in 2009, and eight in 2010.

Bush injured himself at the end of the game last Sunday and hasn’t practiced with the Dolphins all week. The Dolphins haven’t made any decisions yet, but it looks like Bush will be watching this week’s game from the sidelines.

Reggie Bush has run for 1,086 rushing yards and seven touchdowns this year with the Dolphins. According to Sportscity, Eric Dickerson currently has the record for most yards in a season. Dickerson ran for 2,105 yards in the 1984 season with the LA Rams.

Do you think Reggie Bush will be able to run for 2000 yards in a season?

I always knew underneath his do-gooder facade he was a braggart and a hot shot. That he was "on the take" before he even hit the NFL tells you everything you needed to know. I hope somebody take him down hard and ruins his career.

  2. nice year Reggie but time to get a drug test.

"Do you think Reggie Bush will be able to run for 2000 yards in a season?"
    No.

  4. lol.. SO TRUE.

  5. In new Orlleans he was known as wrong way reggie, as a season ticket holder I remember a game where a 14 yr old girl was imploring him to run in the right direction and yes he was always getting his little —- hurt.

  6. SERIOUSLY? TRY SETTING SOME TEAM GOALS. WHO DAT SAY DE GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS?

  7. If he can do 4 games in a row with 100 or more yards and one being over 200 yards, then its obviously possible he can go for over 2000 in a season.

  8. NONONONONONONONONONONONONO! Oh NO!

  9. Look at you wishing injury on another human being. I guess we know you aren't a good person.

  10. In 2010, in New Orleans….Pierre Thomas missed one more game to injury than Reggie Bush did.

  11. He is a team player and if you are a Saints fan you know he is a team player. When he was here he never whined and he never complained. He played his role and thanks to him it opened up a lot of the offense for the Saints other weapons. Without him those other weapons couldn't have been as effective.

  12. Reggie Bush is just like any other competitor, he wants to be the best at what he does and will not settle for less. That's what makes athletes, lawyers, doctors and teachers become great; always believing that no matter what there is always a chance to better than what you really are. Being great doesn't happen overnight, its a combination of practice, hardwork, research, persistentance and the strive to be the best. Talent alone can only carry you so far, its the mental toughness that carries you the rest of the way. Good luck to Reggie Bush and.

  13. Reggie is a good guy and deserves a chance to help his team. We loved having him here in New Orleans and only wish him well wherever he plays, as long as it isn't against the Saints. Good luck Reggie, you can do it!

I think he has a better team that runs the ball unlike the saints who throw the ball but I think he will do better next year but he has to stay healthy.

  17. ass

  18. learn english.saints fans.

  19. he hits 1000 yards and now he's eric dickerson material…. he does realize that he barely got halfway there…..in a 16 game season….

  20. I don't see why not, with all of his preparation during practice, determination, motivation, conviction, staying healthy and watching all those old footage of players like Barry Saunders; I don't see why he could not be one of the best in the NFL. Reggie is really good and sometimes you have to believe in yourself. I feel that this year he has been much more focused but at the same time I feel that everthing happens for a wise purpose. It was time for him to move to a team like Miami where he could show people what he could do. People are such haters you have to believe in yourself because sometimes envy and jealousy wuill prevent others from giving you your due.

  21. Trenetta Brown Funny!!! I am A die hard mike vick fan went too over 25 games in Atlanta.. SO for the black man shit your trippn… DOG….

  22. Trenetta Brown. He needs a drug test because he has to be smoking something if he honestly thinks he's ever breaking rushing records. Please leave the racism outta this. This isn't the early 1900's.

  23. His race has nothing to do with it. Whites get called out for taking drugs all the time. Please see: Ryan Braun. http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/7338271/ryan-braun-milwaukee-brewers-tests-positive-performance-enhancing-drug

  24. Reggie Bush is a turd.

  25. If he can play half as well as his USC days he can shatter the record.

  26. only if the nfl goes to a 32 game season.

he has the physical gifts to do almost anyone on a football field at any level. but does he have it mentally? Yea I think he may! He is such a physical specimen.

  28. There's no need to apologize :) . Everyone here has an equally valuable and insightful opinion on the subject and deserves to be heard.

  29. He would never in a million years have a 2000 yd season.

  30. Look at you judging another human being. I guess we know you're never done any wrong.

Reggie Bush is not a great cutback runner like Chris Johnson is, he hits the hole running leaving to many impact hits at or around the line of scrimmage. Chris Johnson has an amazing ability of turning cracking hits into brushes because of his amazing flexibility. I don't think Reggie's agile enough to make defenders miss enough while carrying the ball 300+ times. I beleive at 1500, he misses some playing time because of some type of injury. The linebackers in this league are as athletic as the runningbacks were in the 80's and 90's while running just as fast.

  32. I was about to post the same thing, but you beat me to it! Could't agree more.

  33. Jon Wood You're judging too, but at least you and I haven't wished injury on someone.

  34. This year except for this last game he was healthy. Plus, the Dolphins coaches didn't utilize him for the first hal the season. So, essentially he got 1086 yards in half a season. So yes he is capable of etting 2000 yards.

Hes finally learned some patience in the backfield. the only reason he was successful between the tackles in college is because the holes he ran through were 20 ft. wide. great open-field back, just needed some patience in the backfield.

  36. can I have some of what he is smoking?

  37. actually, when you look at Chris Johnson and his style, speed, etc., it does make you wonder if Bush is capable of huge numbers. Last year I would have said no way, but with what he has shown this year, I don't see why he wouldn't be as oikely to top 2000 yards as any back outside of AP, Foster, MJD, or Rice.

  38. Reality is not a big part of this site is it? So you think in a passing league where no back will hit 1500 Reggie Bush will eclipse 2,000? Crazy
