Couple Married 72 Years Die Six Hours Apart

A couple married for 72 years died hours apart in Georgia. According to the Dayton Daily News, Robert and Louise Bain passed away just after Christmas, within hours of one another, holding their marriage vows true until the very end. The couple spent their last Christmas in the hospital, but the most important thing was that they were together.

Since getting married on September 14, 1942, the two didn’t spend much time apart. They worked at a Mississippi army base together before moving to Georgia and working at the Georgia Kraft Company together. They raised a family together, and eventually passed away together, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“On Christmas Day Louise, 90, opened her eyes as Robert, 92, sat beside her in their hospital bed. Early the next morning she took her last breath. Six hours later Robert died, too.”

The couple married 72 years wouldn’t die any other way. Those closest to them knew that neither one would want to live in a world without the other, so the fact that they died together… on the same day… in the same hospital, makes a lot of sense.

“The moment mom passed, daddy grasped his chest. He knew she was gone,” said the couple’s daughter Charlotte Tallent.

“You would always find them holding hands, you could just tell they were in love. They put the other person’s needs in front of their own; they were inspirational,” said family friend Ann Spell.

Stories of this nature are actually more common than you might think. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the same sort of thing happened in November. “Soulmates” Harry and Mavis Stevenson died within 10 minutes of each other in Britain. The two had been married for 65 years before they both passed away.

“Their love lasted and they were devoted to each other. I can imagine them being together now, after their death, side by side. Their romance and their love kept them together during those years. When there is absence, then the heart grows stronger,” said Mavis and Harry’s nephew, Stephen Cresswell, at the time.

In October, the Inquisitr reported another similar story. Italvino and his wife, Diva Possa, died side-by-side in the same hospital room, just 40 minutes apart from each other.

“After he died my aunt whispered in my grandmother’s ear that my grandfather had passed away in peace. At that moment she became more peaceful. It was as if he had opened the doors for her to go to, as if he was arranging for them both to be together forever. She died within the hour.”

Evidently, there is something to be said for true love.
