‘Minecraft’ Receives New Holiday DLC on Xbox One, Xbox 360 With The ‘Festive Mash-up Pack’

Fans of 4J Studio’s Xbox ports of Minecraft are in for a holiday treat this week as the developer has announced that next mash-up pack will bring a Christmas-themed overhaul to the popular sandbox title. Xbox Wire, Microsoft’s official gaming blog, detailed what users will be getting with this Wednesday’s launch of Minecraft‘s Festive Mash-up Pack.

Like all previous Minecraft mash-up pack offerings, the upcoming Christmas DLC will allow gamers to completely change their personal Minecraft worlds. In the past, mash-up packs have featured content based upon on other popular video game franchises, such as Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Bioware’s Mass Effect series.

However, this week’s newest mash-up pack DLC for Minecraft will focus on recreating a wintery wonderland inspired by the current holiday season. Rather than featuring new character skins based upon existing licensed properties, the Festive Mash-up Pack will gift Minecraft fans with a series of original new Christmas textures.

In total, the latest Minecraft DLC will add 36 new avatar skins that range from dressing characters in standard winter-wear to giving users the ability to dress their Minecraft figures up as icon Christmas personalities such as Santa Claus or his elves. In addition to altering the appearance of the player’s avatar, the Festive Mash-up Pack will also change the visual looks of Minecraft’s dangerous enemies as well as the textures of the game’s block world itself.

Players can expect the DLC to make their entire Minecraft map filled with snow with trees lit in a typical Christmas fashion. 4J Studios has even replaced the original Minecraft soundtrack with music that has more of a holiday vibe.

The Festive Mash-up Pack will only be releasing on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 this Wednesday. However, the Xbox Wire revealed that the Minecraft DLC will also be launching on other platforms in the future. Microsoft Studios’ Roger Carpenter, who has served as the lead producer on both Xbox versions of Minecraft, also revealed in a tweet to fans that the Christmas mash-up pack DLC will heading to the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and PS Vita soon.

The new mash-up pack is second Minecraft DLC that 4J Studios has surprised fans with in as many weeks. Late last month, the Inquisitr reported that the Star Wars Classic Skin Pack added 55 new avatar skins to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of Minecraft. Unlike the Festive Mash-up Pack, however, there hasn’t been any mention as to whether the developer also plans to bring the Star Wars DLC to Minecraft‘s Playstation editions as well.

Minecraft first launched on home consoles two years ago, starting with the title’s Xbox 360 port. Since that time, Minecraft has also been released on the Playstation 3 followed this year by the series’ launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PS Vita. The Festive Mash-up Pack will release on first Minecraft‘s Xbox versions on December 10.
