PETA Asks Schools with Fish Names to Change Name to Sea Kitten High School

sea-kittens

As part of a campaign to stop people eating fish, PETA is asking American schools with fish names to change their names to Sea Kitten High School.

The sea kittens campaign, launched in October last year, argues that calling fish sea kittens will make people think twice about eating fish, because fish have feelings as well.

Schools asked by PETA to change their names so far are Whitefish High School in Missoula, Montana and Spearfish High School in Spearfish, South Dakota.

PETA said in a statement that “If [the schools] became Sea Kitten High and everyone in town starts calling fish ‘sea kittens,’ fewer of these gentle animals would be violently killed for food, painfully hooked for ‘sport,’ or cruelly confined to aquariums. Schools strive for achievements in academics and sports, so why not add compassion to the list?”

  1. Funny thing is, we Spearfishians frequently refer to our hometown as Speardog…it's just a local thing. If PETA only knew how much we REALLY lack compassion for animals. Also, don't cats eat fish? and aren't these towns landlocked?

  2. btw, Spearfish is a beautiful little city. Come visit!

jeez!, i'm amazed and ashamed that the people in this country have gotten so comfortable in their little sheltered lives that worrying about something as trivial as the torture of harvesting the God given foodchain is their main focus. Someone tell these jackasses these poor little fishes prey on each other! There are people in this world so hungry they only dream of a” freaking fish” to eat. A few days of hunger would give some of these idiots a little well deserved perspective.

this is the dumbest thing ever.

  5. That's not even slightly ridiculous. Oh wait, it is.

  6. Peta people should seek professional help.

One might be tempted to think that PETA is a shoestring operation, run by 2 or 3 former mental patients operating out of an old trailer house in a remote corner of the Mojave desert. This is not the case. PETA is a multi-million dollar business with a shiny new 3 story headquarters in Newport News Va and more than 100 full-time employees (average salary 120K). In today's increasingly surreal world, barking mad is also highly profitable.

  8. Whitefish High School is in Whitefish, Montana, not in Missoula.

I didn't care much about PETA until I watched the HBO documentary “I Am An Animal”. Well, they are nuts.

*I can't use Facebook Connect, here.

  10. This story made http://detentionslip.org ! Check it out for all the crazy headlines from our schools.

  11. Let's just leave all the fish in the sea where they can mass produce and just eat each other while the world starves to death

I like animals as much or more(not in that way, people) than most folks. But this is stupid with a capital S(ea Kitten)! Adult swim says that makes them hungry for “land Fish” which is what they now want to petition cats to be called. How does Peta know vegetables and plants don't feelpain when we cut them. I want to change the name of Arbor Day, to be “Big, Tall Leafy I bleed Sap if You Cut Me Day”. I also see where Peta offered a free brain scan to Sharon Stone. Hmmm…if we offered alot of those scans to Peta Peeps…would they have any scanable material. You started off with a good thing Peta, but, now you are walking the blank, going off the deep end, sleeping with the Sea Kittens!!!! What in the blue hell is wrong with you people? I don't think Peta people should be allowed to use any living thing for any living reason. You cannot have furniture or paper…it kills trees. You cannot drive cars. They burn gas and emit fumes into the air that clogs birds lungs. You cannot buy alot of clothing items that are popular. They are made in several countries using child labor which definitely, or probably, shortens that childs life span. But, in the meantime, to keep these nutballs quiet, I will have the Lynx Thermodor, or, the Calico Scampi please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wait….I forgot. I know it isn't a fish, but, what does Peta want to change the name of Sea Cows too? I guess people don't eat them or anything, but, we should keep it that way. Maybe we should call them Sea Condoms. It goes right up there with Sea Kittens. I still cannot believe there are people with this type of problem roaming the earth. You have half the world at war, crime rampant in the streets, homeless and jobless people, allof which could end up making it so no one is around to eat fish, Sea Kittens, whatever. And, with all these problems Peta comes up with another useless bit of bull that does not help animals at all.

wow can we petition for kittens to be called land fish

  15. I eat Sea Kittens.

    Peta kills Puppies.

    Which is worse???????

  16. I understand and agree with peta's philosophy, however the way they go about it is just a shame. Did you know that they euthanize 90 some percent of the animals that they rescue?

PETA sucks. They don't rescue animals at all. MOST of the animals they KILL are animals who have been turned over to PETA by people who think that their animals will be rehomed. Ingrid Newkirk is a psychopath. The ONLY good thing she has ever done is to have herself sterilized so that she can't breed more little psychopaths.
