Are the Philadelphia Eagles the Miami Heat of the NFL?

I have read and seen more than one post today calling the Philadelphia Eagles the dream team of the NFL, and sure they look very scary on paper. However, given the fact that the NBA’s dream team the Miami Heat came up just short of a NBA title I really wonder if the powers that be are far to ready to crown the Eagles the Super Bowl Champs. I am of course reminded of that famous Dennis Green rant, which may have been one of the best post game rants by a NFL coach of all time. PLAYOFFS? Just Kidding.

The Eagles have amassed a embarrassment of riches. They had already landed Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie plus D linemen Cullen Jenkins and Jason Babin to greatly improve their defense. On top of that they signed Vince Young to backup Michael Vick, and today landed former Miami Dolphin RB Ronnie Brown who is a perfect fit as a versatile option in Andy Reid’s offense. That is a lot of money spent, but one has to wonder are we ready to crown them already?

I have to say no. Sure, they brought in a ton of talent, but Rodgers-Cromartie has been hard to handle at times, and the Arizona Cardinals had a hard time keeping him motivated. Plus bringing in a ton of top of the line free agents has never worked for the Washington Redskins, but of course the Eagles have likely done more homework on their signings than Daniel Snyder usually does.

In the end, I think we have to say that yes they look very formidable but this is why we play the games. Talk to me in December and I will give you my final decision on how all of this works out for them. For now let us sit back and enjoy the show.
