‘The Hunger Games’ Mobile Strategy Game Announced By Lionsgate

Today, Lionsgate announced a partnership with mobile game studio Kabam to develop a card collection role playing strategy game based on their hit movie franchise The Hunger Games.

“Kabam will produce an exclusive role playing, card collection mobile game that will deliver the action of the blockbuster film into the hands of avid fans around the world. In the game, players assume the identity of District members sent on a mission in order to build their alliance, liberate their District, and rebuild Panem.”

“Lionsgate has an unparalleled track record of developing and producing blockbuster movie franchises like ‘The Hunger Games,'” said Kabam Chief Operating Officer Kent Wakeford. “Partnering with Lionsgate, Kabam will build a mobile game that’s as much fun to play as the movie is to watch.”

The game will be the third official Hunger Games mobile game, joining Funtactix’s The Hunger Games Adventures and Reliance Games’ Hunger Games – Panem Run.

“We are so pleased to be working with Kabam to give the fans an experience like they have never had before,” said Danielle DePalma, Lionsgate’s EVP of Digital Media. “Being able to role-play with the mentors straight from the world of ‘The Hunger Games’ will let fans feel as if they are in the middle of the action.”

Kabam will be developing their Hunger Games mobile game at their China studio, where they created the movie-based mobile game The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth, which generated more than $100 million in revenue in the first year of release.

Kabam credits deep Hollywood relationships and access to valuable intellectual property for their games based on blockbuster movies such as The Hunger Games, enabling them to take an established film brand and extend it into mobile and web games in the free-to-play arena.

Earlier this month, Lionsgate released the first promotional material for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, the next installment in the Hunger Games movies, which is set for release on November 21, 2014. As previously reported on The Inquisitr, the materials included seven new stills from the film, a motion poster, a page from the Hunger Games Mockingjay script, and a Q&A with the director, producer, and screenwriter.

The release also included a first look at Julianne Moore as President Alma Coin. Moore was most recently in Cannes, where she received an award for best actress for her role in David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars.
