Lava QPAD e704 7 Inch Tablet Debuts In India For Rs.9,999

Lava International has just announced the launch of its new affordable tablet, the QPAD e704 in India. The launch comes close on the heels of the release of the Q2500 phablet by Xolo, Lava’s sister company. Lava has targeted the young working professionals looking for an affordable Android powered tablet with the QPAD e704. The press release announcing the launch of the device also says that Lava is targeting the enterprise segment with the device.

As the norm is, let us check out the specifications of the QPAD e704.

Display

Unlike the Q2500 which is a phablet with a 6-inch display, the QPAD e704 makes it amply clear that it is a full-fledged tablet – thanks to its larger 7 –inch display. The resolution on the other hand is a not too impressive 1024*600 pixels. This translates to a PPI value of 169. Not that great. But then, you have to remember that this is a strict low budget tablet.

Processor and Hardware

Now this is an interesting turn of events here. Unlike the usual MediaTek Quad Core chipset that you would normally see powering a device of this class, Lava has chosen a yet to be clarified Broadcom chipset on the QPAD e704. It houses a quad core Cortex A9 processor chugging along at 1.2 Ghz. We suspect this to be the BCM21654G chipset from Broadcom and are awaiting confirmation from Lava regarding this. The press release also adds that the QPAD e704 gets a Mali 400 GPU taking care of the graphics. While the display resolution is low, the device claims to handle full HD content with ease. This is yet to be verified. As for other hardware bits, the QPAD e704 gets 1GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. You can of course expand this further using micro SD cards.

Connectivity and Camera

The QPAD e704 is a Dual SIM 3G tablet and is a fully capable mobile phone as well should you wish to use it as one. The tablet supports both GPS and GLONASS – translating into greater accuracy whilst using mapping tools. Then there are the usual connectivity options that include Bluetooth, WiFi, USB, EDGE and 2G. On the imaging front, a 3.2 MP camera sports the rear of the QPAD e704 while a VGA camera adorns the front. The spec sheet doesn’t clarify if the camera can be used to record 720p videos. There is an HDMI out as well.

Battery Life/Software

With a 3,500 mAh battery claimed to provide up to 300 hours of standby time and 10 hours of talk time, the QPAD e704 looks tailor-made for people who are on the move. Lava also claims that the device has a highly optimized power management module that helps increase the battery life by at least 40%. The QPAD e704 runs Android 4.2.2 and also comes preloaded with a bunch of apps including WeChat, Viber, Asphalt 7 HD and NQ Anti-virus.

Pricing and Availability

The QPAD e704 has been priced at Rs. 9999, just under the psychological Rs.10k mark. It would be exclusively available on Flipkart for the first two weeks of its launch.
