Mom Speaks Out About Boyfriend Who Bit Off Their Infant Son’s Nose

Joshua Cooper is expected to appear in court on Monday, Mar. 17 after allegedly biting off his infant son’s nose. According to ABC News7, the mother of the child, Angelika Riggins, is only 16-years-old herself. The young mother spoke exclusively with the publication on Sunday, Mar. 16, weighing in with her account of the entire incident.

The father, 18, is currently in jail, while she has been with the baby at the Children’s Hospital in Oakland, CA. The publication reports that doctors have reattached the child’s nose. However, they’re still evaluating the child to determine if the surgery was a success.

As previously reported on the Inquisitr, the Fairfield Police Department received a call from Riggins on the morning of Thurs., Mar. 13. She stated that her one-month-old son, Ta’Jon was bleeding from the nose. Cooper informed the police that he had “bit off his son’s nose out of frustration because he couldn’t get the baby to stop crying.” However, Riggins opposes the excuse. She explained that he actually displayed no signs of frustration prior to the incident.

“I didn’t see no anger that morning,” Riggins said. “I didn’t see no stress that morning. He was up playing with the baby. Waking up and seeing that my baby’s right next to me in the hospital, it hurts. Hurts my feelings a lot. Like, my heart is broken.”

Doctors later discovered that in addition to his severed nose, the baby had suffered from “a skull fracture and a brain hemorrhage.” When asked about the newly discovered injuries, Riggins stated that she was unaware of any other injuries and that she doesn’t know how her son may have been injured.

The doctors definitely suspect that the child’s injuries are a result of child abuse. The child is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services. Riggins is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, Mar. 18 to begin her legal battle to regain custody of the child. She said she plans “to fight to bring her son home when he’s released from the hospital.”

However, doctors have no given a timetable in regards to the child’s release from the hospital. All that has been said is that “he has a long road to recovery.”

Cooper was booked into the Solano County Jail some time Thursday afternoon. He faces felony charges of aggravated mayhem and child cruelty causing injury or death. He is currently being held under a $765,000 bail.
