Boba Fett Movie: ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Confirmed, In Pre-Production

BOBA FETT

Star Wars fans rejoice; a Boba Fett movie is officially in the works. The Star Wars spinoffs have been rumored for a while, but everybody’s favorite bounty hunter is officially getting his own movie. Some would say it was inevitable.

Ever since Disney bought out Star Wars, one of the biggest items of news has been the upcoming films. Episodes seven through nine were confirmed early on, as well as a handful of spinoffs, but until now we didn’t know who the spinoff movies were going to focus on. One of the characters we predicted right here on The Inquisitr was Boba Fett, who despite having almost no screen time, remains one of the most popular characters in the franchise.

The Boba Fett movie probably won’t be an origin story as much as a “coming of age” tale of how he became a ruthless and persistent bounty hunter. Technically, Attack of the Clones was Boba Fett’s origin, showing us a young boy who witnesses his father being killed by a Jedi.

Perhaps the spinoff movie will show him dealing with knowing that most of the Empire’s army are clones of his father? Perhaps we’ll see him making a deal with Darth Vader, despite knowing that Anakin was the student of the man who killed his father?

Metalocalypse director John Schnepp confirmed the rumor of a Boba Fett movie in a press interview. Speaking about the spinoff movies, he said, “One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.”

If that name sounds familiar, it could be because he was responsible for writing some of George Lucas’ best films. Lawrence Kasdan wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, so you know he has some serious potential to make his Star Wars spinoff the best of the bunch.

No official casting has been revealed about any of the upcoming Star Wars films, though it has been heavily rumored that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher could be returning to play their original roles. Other casting announcements have been made, but they were more descriptors than they were actual character or actor names.

Apparently, Disney is keeping a tight lid on everything surrounding the upcoming Star Wars films, so we probably won’t know anything until 2015 when the next film is expected to hit theaters.

What do you think the Boba Fett movie will tell us about the infamous bounty hunter?

This has a glimmer of promise considering Kasdan is involved. Hopefully they won't screw this up too bad. Unfortunately, Lucas already cemented the ground work to dismantle such a movie with his crappy origin related content in his embarrassing prequel monstrosities. If the producers are smart, they'll abandon whatever ties they can connecting this story to the prequel plots, much like many of the fans already have done. Lucas's origin is so weak. That guy really butchered the franchise, beat it down to a bloody pulp. A crying shame.

  2. Kori West

Now this is a chance for Disney to do something truly great with this franchise.

  3. Benjamin Hart

Would you please refer to the Lucasfilm press release where this information has been confirmed? Mr. Schnepp's comments are not a legitimate "Official" confirmation.

  4. Jimmy DiNome

Problem is Lucasfilm doesn't own the rights anymore. So they probably won't be confirming or denying anything. Maybe call Roy Disney

  5. Jeff Williams

Yes, like they did with the Pirates of the Caribbean….How they totally messed up The Lone Ranger.

  6. Colin A. Gore

    Anakin was Jinn/Obi Wann's apprentice/student. Mace Windu killed Boba's father…

  7. Glenn Vrooman

ok im going to geek out so please forgive me. Jengo Fett was not the the father of Boba. Boba Fett himself was a Clone of Jengo to be raised as his son.

  8. Reggie Kirkpatrick

Yes, we know this. He also was not given the quick growth treatments the rest of the clones got.

  9. Jimmy DiNome

Forget he died. I guess talk to Bob Iger then. As for Lucasfilm , they bought it for like 4 billion bucks .

  10. Benjamin Hart

Point is; nothing is official unless it comes from StarWars.com, which is run by Lucasfilm. This article claims have an "official confirmation" that a Boba Fett is in pre-production, yet they don't sight their source, and nothing of the sort has been posted on StarWars.com.

  11. Jimmy DiNome

Well seeing this is a rumor site I would wait until official confirmation comes from Disney. Don't care if it's their site or star wars dot com. Bottom line is Disney said they were gonna run with this stuff so don't be surprised if you see a bunch of individual character movies ala X Men origins . I have heard Bob Iger really wants to see the origins of characters like Han Solo, Chewbacca, Jabba the Hut, Yoda, QuiGon Jinn, Mace Windu, and a few more. So don't expect them to stop with just 7, 8, & 9 .

  12. Ian Olson

Doen't matter. Do the movie like the Dredd reboot. KEEP THE HELMET ON and he NEEDS TO BE portrayed like the anti-hero he is.

  13. Robert Clowncar McAllister

    Sorry, but:
It's Jango, and he was Boba's father–he raised Boba as a son, from birth.

  14. Jesse Scott

We never see him interact disparagingly to other clones. He just gets his job done. No emotion for the most part. It's his job.

SHUT THE FUCK UP – Everyone already knows this if they own Google.

Saying obvious shit only makes you look like a fucking clown.

You're most likely going to get your wishes. From what I understand in addition to the 7,8,&9 they are supposed to do something in the vein of X-Men origins for a bunch of the Star Wars characters .

  18. Jimmy DiNome

Han Solo, Yoda , and Qui Gon Jinn will be the first few you heard it here first people

  20. Alexander Santos

Maybe the new Fett movie is about how to get out of the Sarlacc Pitt. He's such a "badass", he shouldn't have gone out like that.

  21. Jimmy DiNome

It's Disney, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did a kids movie based on Jar Jar and his people . I can see it now characters walking around at Epcot or Magic Kingdom lol so dumb. Disney is gonna milk this dry and pick the bones clean you'll see

  22. Brian Kastelic

    **EU Spoilers**
He doesn't die. He uses a few thermal detonators and blows himself out. Dengar finds him and nurses him back to health. He goes on to train Han and Leias kid in Mandalorian combat.

  23. Jonathan Michael Oda

Chris Hummel he is the father, but not in the sense that some are thinking. hes not the genetic father, but the father who raised him, so i think that plays a lot into the fact that he may have to deal with knowing he himself is a clone of his "dad", who was raised by his "dad" who is also himself, but grown up and isnt a clone.

  24. Brett Huffman

Fett also doesn't know that Anakin is Vader. Nobody knows except Palpatine and Vader. So Fett couldn't hold that fact against him.

  25. Brian Kastelic

Yes, Dengar's Tale in "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" covers it briefly, but Boba Fetts Tale in "Tales From Jabba's Palace" really goes into detail about it.

  27. Whit Morgan

It's also outlined in the first book of the bounty hunter wars

  28. Alice Cassandra Carter

Jimmy DiNome I'm imagining a kid's show based on a young Jar Jar. A cartoon done in a similar visual style to Dora the Explorer. Where he goes around and klutzes things up and learns a valuable moral lesson every day along with effective product placement.

  29. Chris Hummel

A Qui Gon story would be f'n awesome for sure! Something along the lines of his padawan being taken and he vows to get it back and goes after the guys that did it.

  30. Chris Hummel

Mace trained Anakin quite a bit actually. The padawan is trained by a lot of the masters, not just the one they are assigned to.

  31. Chris Hummel

Dave Penner Oh I did, best of the three prequels by far. No whiny ass Hayden Christensen. I would take Jar Jar any day over that sad excuse for an actor.

  32. Dave Penner

Chris Hummel And thanks for deleting my comments just because you didn't like them. Did you do the same thing to your memories after you watched the prequels? Your denial count is off the charts!!

  33. Chris Hummel

Jonathan Michael Oda Children are basically clones of their parents anyway. Something like 92% of shared DNA with the dominant parent.

  34. Chris Hummel

Dave Penner I didnt delete them, you cant see your own comments. Its bugged or something, I cant see mine either. So try not to jump to conclusions big guy.

  35. Chris Hunnicutt

I love Fett as much as the next person, but how exactly is he an anti-hero? In the films, the only purpose he really serves is that of a minor antagonist. If he were an anti-hero, he'd have been battling the Empire in his own way, albeit in a morally questionable fashion, not serving them willingly in order to make a buck.

  37. Tim Tillock

Chris Hunnicutt need to read the books (part of the canon). Then you will see how his anti-hero status plays out.

  38. Chris Hunnicutt

Tim Tillock I read Tales of the Bounty Hunters and found no such evidence showing him to be an anti-hero or in support of generally good causes, unless there was money involved. A mercenary or bounty hunter who does a task for the highest bidder is doing a job, not working toward the better good. If anything, that's neutrality at its finest.

  39. Tim Tillock

Chris Hunnicutt Tales of the Bounty Hunters was horrible, and not the series about which I speak. Ever read books 1,2 & 3 of The Bounty Hunter Wars? Probably not. The title for these books are The Mandalorian Armor, Slave Ship, and Hard Merchandise. Very anti-hero.

  40. Chris Hummel

Anthony Nogales Ah, but I was referring to Obi Wan talking about how Yoda trained him while they were talking with Luke on Dagobah, when Qui-Gon was his master.

  41. Alexander Santos

I thought he would be digested for one thousand years.

  42. Kevin G. O'Connor

Tim Tillock The books are not canon, but EU, which it's been recently announced, are being tossed aside and pretty much ignored as the franchise moves forward.

  43. Matthew Lobo Willis

Who cares. The Star Wars universe was ruined for all eternity by the prequels, save for only the dumbest most-uncritical drooling fan boys. Everything that was cool about it is now horrible and shitty, including Boba Fett.

  44. Matthew Lobo Willis

I think it was during the scenes where it was revealed that the Storm Troopers were all clones of Boba Fett's dad that I realized that everything I loved about Star Wars was being brutally raped right before my eyes and I could do nothing but watch it happen.

  45. Steve Stiefel

Isn't Boba Fett also a clone of his "father"? His gift from Kamino for providing the genetic material for the clones?

  46. Clint Barnett

Tim Tillock none of those are going to matter in this universe since they are throwing out the non-official canon.

  47. Fallon Sullivan

Family is more than blood or how you were made. In the Mandalorian culture, it's more about who raises you and how that determines family.

  48. Patrick McLaughlin

Chris Hummel , I believe they should focus more on what it is to be of mandalore and the background story to them and the tie in with the sith in the unkown regions and the desecration of their leader and how very nearly they were wiped out as a culture due in large part to the betrayal of the jedi and the death watch.
and on a unrelated matter I believe they should do the background on A'sharad hett and his father and how these 2 seemingly footnote jedi that were lost track of after order 66 eventually would lead to the resurgence of the sith in the form of DARTH KRAYT during the time of LUKES grandson and how the future of the jedi is in grave peril.
