Woman Embryo: 4-Month-Old Baby Was Adopted By Woman As An Embryo

A woman adopted an embryo seven years after it was fertilized, and she has shared her incredible story with the world. According to People Magazine , Liz Krainman could not have a biological child due to “ severe diminished ovarian reserve .” She and her husband Kevin decided to try something else, and in the world of IVF, there are other options for couples who can’t have biological children. Liz and Kevin decided to adopt an embryo.

“In 2006, 1,700 miles away from the Krainman’s Austin home, [Liz’s daughter] was just a newly-fertilized, 6-day-old embryo – the product of another couple’s IVF cycle – put on ice in a storage facility. Seven years later, that very embryo would be thawed and transferred into Krainman’s uterus. Nine months after that, Sammy was born,” reports People Magazine .

While the woman’s adopted embryo is now a beautiful 4-month-old baby girl, Liz’s journey to become a mom wasn’t easy. She experienced a couple of heartbreaking setbacks that aren’t uncommon in the world of IVF. She suffered two miscarriages before carrying to term, and delivering a healthy baby. The whole thing is just hard to fathom, and Liz says that she still can’t believe how everything worked out.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how boggled my mind is. I can’t even wrap my head around it… But as with most things in life, everything was meant to happen the way it did so we could have this little girl we have today. We wouldn’t change a thing.”

A woman can adopt an embryo as an alternative to traditional adoption, which isn’t something a lot of people know about. According to CBS News , another couple recently spoke out about their choice to have a child via embryo adoption . Stephanie and Ben Hawkins welcomed Annika in 2009, and say that they chose embryo adoption for similar reasons as Liz and Kevin. What many people don’t realize is that leftover embryos that were created by IVF can be donated to other women who want to get pregnant.

“When a couple undergoes in vitro fertilization and is left with more embryos than they need, they are given three options: either to have the remaining embryos destroyed, donate them to science, or donate them to another couple that will adopt them in a process that is legally similar to the traditional adoption of a child that’s already born.”

The world of IVF has changed the way many women look at pregnancy and motherhood. Many IVF stories have happy endings, and many women are able to become mothers after being faced with devastating news of not being able to conceive.

Sometimes things just have a way of working themselves out. There was recently a story reported by the Inquisitr about a woman who fell in love with a sperm donor. You can read about that here.
