UFC President Dana White Says Women’s Division ‘Absolutely Going To Happen’

UFC president Dana White is working on adding a women’s division to the sport, SI.com reports. And it’s largely because of the “ best female fighter ever ,” Ronda Rousey.

White initially rejected the idea of adding a women’s division to UFC, saying there was a lack of quality fighters. But he is now changing his tune after watching Rousey defeat Miesha Tate back in March as well as destroy eight other opponents with an armbar in the first round.

Rousey currently has three fights left in her Strikeforce contract and will have to fulfill that deal before she can make the move to UFC.

White said people might think Rousey is being added to UFC “because she’s pretty,” but he insisted that wasn’t the case . He said ex-Strikeforce fighter Gina Carano was pretty too, but that Rousey is a “whole other case.”

“She’s nasty. She’s a real fighter. She not only likes to win, she likes to finish. Think about this: Everyone she fights knows what is coming, that armbar of hers, and no one can stop it. They have a whole [expletive] training camp to prepare for that one move and nobody has been able to stop it yet,” White said.

He also went on to say that Rousey is a “dude in a girl’s body” and is serious about becoming a better fighter.

While there isn’t a set time frame for when a women’s division will be added to UFC, it’s certainly not going to happen overnight. White talked about adding a men’s flyweight division for a year before it finally happened, so it could be the same amount of time — if not longer — before a women’s division is added.

White isn’t going to let a thing like time get him down, though. “The point is I’m committed to this,” he said.

What do you think about a women’s division in UFC?
