Zombies are usually defined as reanimated figures that are living after death and are primarily based on African folklore or religion. Zombies became popular in movies due to the rise of the horror movie genre and stories told by soldiers about zombie sightings during the U.S. occupation of Haiti from 1915 to 1932. Zombie fans inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” started having public parades dressed in special effects costumes as early as the mid-1980s. Zombie legends are thought to have originated from people poisoned with psychoactive herbs that left the victims chemically lobotomized. The zombie is a popular feature of many TV shows such as iZombie, The Walking Dead, and Z Nation.
