X-Men is a film franchise based on the Marvel Comics characters. The first film in the series, titled X-Men, was released in 2000. The original X-Men film and the sequel, X2, were directed by Bryan Singer. Because of the success of the first two X-Men films, several spinoff films were released, with seven films in total. The X-Men franchise is the 14th-highest grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed $3 billion worldwide. The first three X-Men films also set box-office records in North America. The first X-Men film starred Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Bruce Davison, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Ray Park, and Anna Paquin.
