Twilight is the first movie in the Twilight Saga based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel of the same name. It starred Kristen Stewart at the main character, Bella Swan, and Robert Pattinson as her love interest, 108-year-old vampire Edward Cullen. Stewart and Pattinson, relative unknowns prior to starring in Twilight, shot to instant fame when the movie was released. Pattinson has stated in interviews that he was overwhelmed with the amount of fame Twilight produced and felt it was a hindrance to his life. The movie was released in 2008, and became one of the highest-grossing films of that year, earning $392 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics. Twilight was followed in 2009 by two sequel movies, New Moon and Eclipse.
