The Royal Rumble is one of the premier events of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Established as a pay-per-view telecast in 1988, the show is highlighted by a 20-man “battle royal” match. This involves two entrants starting the match and one additional combatant entering every 90 seconds. WWE keeps the order and a few of the identities for many entrants secret leading up to the match. An entrant is eliminated if thrown over the top rope provided both feet touch the floor. The match continues until only one entrant remains, and he is guaranteed a shot at the title at WrestleMania — the company’s biggest event — which takes place around the end of March or early April each year.
