The PS Vita is the most commonly used name of the PlayStation Vita, Sony’s handheld gaming unit. It debuted in Japan at the end of 2011 before turning up in North America and other markets a few months later in 2012. The PS Vita uses its own proprietary operating system and delivers content through digital and the PS Vita Card. It was preceded by the PlayStation Portable and is capable of backward compatibility through downloads only as well as select streaming of PS3 titles. The PS Vita also boasts access to more than 1,100 games at this time.
