Jorge Mario Bergoglio became the first Latin American man to be elected to the chair of St. Peter. On March 13, 2013, the College of Cardinals ended their search for the successor of Pope Benedict XVI, who in a historic move, had resigned his post on February 28 of the same year. Pope Francis, who hails from Argentina and is also the first Jesuit to claim the Papacy, is both lauded and criticized for the reforms he is bringing to the Catholic Church which focus on inclusion of the marginalized and humility.
