Pharrell Lanscilo Williams was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1973, the son of a handyman and a teacher. He met musician Chad Hugo when they were 10, and they have formed the duo the Neptunes as well as N*E*R*D. The two met in a band camp where Williams was playing drums. In September of 2004, Williams was featured on the Snoop Dogg single “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” The song would eventually peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 two months later, marking Williams’s first No. 1 single in the United States. The song was named Rap Song of the Decade by Billboard in 2009. With songs like “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky,” Williams continued his musical evolution. He is currently a judge on the NBC show The Voice.
