Kim Jong-un is the supreme leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and is based in North Korea. He rose to power in 2011, following the death of his father, Kim Jong-il, and was appointed Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army. In 2012, Kim was elected First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. Known internationally as a tyrant, Kim has ordered the deaths of several members of his cabinet, including his own uncle, Jang Sung-taek, and his uncle’s immediate family. The North Korean leader is also said to have nuclear arms and has threatened the United States with nuclear threats on several occasions. North Korea is believed to be part of the “Axis of Evil” because of Kim Jong-un’s threats.
