Joan Rivers was an American comedian and television personality best known for her commentary at various award ceremonies and interviews with celebrities. She began her career in 1969 as a protege of Johnny Carson, eventually landing her own late-night television show as well as a daytime talk show. In her later years, Joan also hosted Fashion Police on the E! network and starred in her own reality series Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? with her daughter, Melissa Rivers. She also wrote 12 best-selling memoir books and was nominated for Tony and Grammy awards. In 2014, Joan Rivers died from complications during minor throat surgery. Rivers was 81. Investigators found the doctors made a number of mistakes, and in 2015, her daughter filed a malpractice lawsuit.
