Originally created by writer Ian Fleming in 1953, suave British Secret Service agent James Bond led 12 novels and two short-story collections. It was only until the decision was made to bring the character to the big-screen with 1962’s Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as Bond, that 007 became a firm part of the pop culture landscape. Since then, 23 James Bond films have been released, with Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and, currently, Daniel Craig portraying the character. Bond is renowned as a womanizer, alcoholic, and deadly assassin who uses cars, guns, and gadgets to catch his target. Skyfall is currently the most successful installment of the franchise, having grossed $1.1 billion in 2012.
