The Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS) is a terrorist organization thought to have been founded in 2006. ISIS was successfully funded by an oil well that was seized in Iraq that gave the organization almost $2 million per month until 2008. Although it was originally connected to al-Qaeda, ISIS is an independent terrorist organization. The first plot organized by ISIS was against the king of Jordan. 2013 represented a turning point for ISIS, and they gained power in several cities in Iraq. In addition to attacks on American military forces in the region, ISIS has perpetrated murders of women, children, and seniors.
