Iron Man was always a somewhat popular Marvel Comics character among comic book enthusiasts from his first appearance in 1963. However, it was the 2008 feature film that gave the character (human identity: Tony Stark) the breakthrough he needed. The first Iron Man film was a surprise hit for Marvel Entertainment, grossing more than $585 million worldwide on a budget of $140 million. It also succeeded in making Robert Downey, Jr., one of the most highly paid actors of all time. Stark (Iron Man) is brash, overconfident, and deeply flawed individual, but he’s also a technological genius and a constitution for doing good. Iron Man is a founding member of the Avengers superhero group.
