Fox News was founded by Rupert Murdoch in 1996. The 24-hour cable news network regularly wins its time slots with shows such as The O’Reilly Factor with host Bill O’Reilly, The Kelly File with Megyn Kelly, and the Fox and Friends multi-hour news and events morning show. Rupert Murdoch appointed Roger Ailes as permanent CEO of Fox News — the Fox News Channel. Both Fox News and MSNBC were created after the first 24-hour cable news channel, CNN, launched during the early 1980s. The Fox News Channel began a rapid climb that resulted in top ratings in the cable news genre during the 2000 presidential election. The channel became available to 56 million homes nationwide and saw a 440 percent increase in viewership in 2000.
