Edward Snowden is an American best known for leaking classified National Surveillance Agency (NSA) secrets in 2013. At the time, Snowden was working for Booz Allen Hamilton as a government contractor. He leaked information about global surveillance programs to reporters Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras, and Ewen MacAskill, who later published stories based on the files. The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed charges against Snowden of two counts of violating the Espionage Act and theft of government property. Edward fled to Russia, where he found asylum for first one year, then three years. In September 2015, Snowden resurfaced after opening a Twitter account, garnering millions of followers within 24 hours. His first conversation was with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.
