Disney is often used as the shorthand for the Walt Disney Company, the world’s largest entertainment and mass media organization. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney, the company has produced some of the most beloved animated films and characters. Disney is most commonly associated with Mickey Mouse and Friends, which include Goofy, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck. It is also the studio behind the animated features for Dumbo, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Aladdin, to name a few. The first Disney film was 1923’s Alice’s Wonderland, a live-action/animated hybrid featuring actress Virginia Davis and many of the studio’s animated characters. Today, Disney owns Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm, and Pixar.
