DC Comics is one of the “Big Two” comic book publishers in the United States, along with Marvel Comics. Like Marvel (owned by Disney), DC Comics is part of a larger parent company — in this case, Warner Bros, which itself is a Time Warner company. Founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, it’s the home of arguably the two most popular comic book characters of all time: Superman and Batman. While DC Comics has struggled to translate their properties to film in recent years, the future looks promising with the first-ever onscreen pairing of Superman and Batman, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, slated for March 25, 2016.
