Boston is both the capital city of Massachusetts and the state capital. The city is rich in history and boasts a multitude of Revolutionary War attractions and heritage sites. The Freedom Trail is a little over two miles long and serves as a self-guided historical walk around Boston. Faneuil Hall has also long been a popular spot for both locals and visitors alike. The unique marketplace and meeting area has been in operation since 1742. During the fight for American independence from England, Samuel Adams and other a host of other patriots urging for the formation of a new free nation and addressed large crowds from Faneuil Hall on a regular basis. The Boston Marathon terrorist attack occurred during the highly-anticipated annual run on April 15, 2013.
