Born Amanda Laura Bynes in Thousand Oaks, California, in 1986, Bynes got her start on television on the series All That and The Amanda Show in the late 1990s. Bynes also did a lot of theater as a child, including The Sound of Music and The Secret Garden.

Bynes then branched into movies, starring in movies like What a Girl Wants, Sydney White, and Easy A, and Hairspray. In 2012, she announced that she was retiring from acting. Soon after, she found herself involved in a series of legal issues, which ended with her committed to a psychiatric facility under her parents’ conservatorship.
