Craig Robinson, who plays Darryl on The Office , might be headlining his own NBC comedy soon.
Though Robinson’s Office character is headed to Philly and Jim’s sports-marketing firm, Robinson’s collaboration with series producer Greg Daniels is far from over. Robinson and Daniels have been developing another NBC sitcom together, and the network has officially ordered a pilot, reports MSN .
The as-yet-untitled show will be written by The Office supervising producer Owen Ellickson, and will center on a talented musician (Robinson) who “adjusts to his new like as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms,” reports Deadline .
The comedy project will be produced by Universal TV, Daniels’ Deedle Dee Productions, and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Ellickson, Daniels, Tracy Katsky of Deedle Dee, Howard Klein and Mark Schulman of 3 Arts will executive produce, with Robinson himself serving as producer.
Robinson has played soft-spoken Dunder-Mifflin warehouse manager Darryl Philbin on The Office since the series began, and was promoted to a series regular in Season 4. Daniels is overseeing the ninth and final season of the Emmy-winning comedy series.
Robinson’s pilot is certainly well-deserved, as he has been an Office staple, slowly working his way up on the popular program. I don’t know if he can steer a whole series by himself, but he has all my faith.
