Selena Gomez may not have had much option but to honestly answer a recent interview question on whether she’d ever experienced all-consuming love, but her response could be heartbreaking news to Justin Bieber.
The 21-year-old opened up about her relationship with her famous ex-boyfriend while doing press for her new film, Getaway, before its release on August 30.
In the movie, Selena moves beyond her Disney past once more playing “The Kid” opposite Ethan Hawke “Brent Magna” in a fast-paced, if generic looking , race against time thriller.
Nutshelled, the plots sees the pair forced to complete a series of dangerous tasks while instructed by a voice on the end of a phone (Jon Voight), before Magna can save his kidnapped wife.
Interviewed by the New York Daily News in between concert dates on her Stars Dance tour, Selena was probed about the film and cannily asked if Hawke’s character’s all-consuming love for his wife was something she had experienced in real life.
“No, I don’t think so,” Gomez replied . “Not yet. But I think I’ll experience it later.”
The actress-singer didn’t stop there.
It’s not entirely clear if the Daily News’ other relationship question was specifically about Bieber or tattooed (so called) ‘bad boys’ in general — either way — the Latina’s reply suggests she is no longer physically attracted to the Canadian superstar.
“I understand [the attraction], but I don’t suggest it,” she said . “A nerdy guy that wears the same flannel every day, I think that’s really cute. That’s attractive to me, that kind of vibe.”
Despite their recent split this year after numerous break-ups in their “intense…crazy” relationship — as Selena once described it — she and Justin are friends and see other occasionally.
Although she has publicly said she will always “protect” and “care” for the 19-year-old, Gomez has also declared her single status more than once recently.
For his part, Bieber was spotted escorting the model Ashley Moore to lunch last week. But some new reports have pointed to his attendance at Selena’s final 21st birthday bash carrying a single red rose and insistence to tour mate Ariana Grande to tweet a picture of them kissing , as signs he may still want a romantic relationship with Gomez.
If so, the Spring Breakers actress’ latest interview will be another crash course in heartbreak for Justin.
Meanwhile, while Selena appears to be dry-eyed over her ex-teen sweetheart, that’s not the case with her fans.
The “Come And Get It” star met raptured ‘Selenators’ outside the Bell Centre after her Montreal, Canada tour on Friday and later posted an Instagram , writing:
“Oh, Montreal.. I haven’t cried like that for a while. I ? YOU! Thank you.”
