Ronda Rousey is scheduled to fight Liz Carmouche this Saturday in Anaheim.
Carmouche reportedly launched a Twitter campaign to help her land the showdown between Rousey. According to The Daily News , the pair will take part in the first women’s promotional bout in UFC history. The fight is slated to take place at UFC 157 this weekend.
Carmouche said a recent news conference:
“We started this Twitter campaign and we thought, ‘If we ask, all we can be told is no,’ and we’d heard [UFC president] Dana White say before that for his fighters, if they ask for it, he’ll give it to them. They just have to go out there and do their best. And we thought wait… you know, if we don’t try and ask for it, there’s no possibility of us getting it.”
Ronda Rousey will fight Liz Carmouche at the Honda Center on Saturday. Bleacher Report explains that UFC 157 will mark the promotional debut for Rousey. Although she is slowly but surely starting to make a name for herself in the sport, Rousey said she owes everything to MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano.
She told the New York Post during a recent interview:
“I would never be an MMA fighter if it wasn’t for [Carano]. I’m not dumb enough to not be grateful. I just say thank God for Gina Carano. I really think what she’s doing with films is just as much an influence on women’s MMA as her fighting again. She’s continuing to represent us very well, bringing women’s MMA to an audience that doesn’t know MMA really at all.”
Liz Carmouche said the match against Ronda Rousey should silence those who feel women don’t have a place in MMA. Carmouche added that she intends to “put on the best show possible to really win over the night.”
