Princess Madeleine of Sweden is expecting, which is phenomenal news if you were on the lookout for another Royal Baby story to follow.
Sweden’s Royal Palace announced the pregnancy, reports The Associated Press . The Princess and her husband, New York banker Christopher O’Neill, will welcome their first child together in March.
Princess Madeleine is the younger sister of Crown Princess Victoria, and was third in line for the throne of Sweden. After her niece, Princess Estelle, was born in February of 2012, she became fourth in line.
The 31-year-old married O’Neill in Stockholm back in June. The couple are based in New York.
Her pregnancy will not affect her fall schedule, or her work for the World Childhood Foundation, a nonprofit charity founded by her own mother, Queen Silvia.
Reuters reports that public support for the Swedish monarchy has waned in recent years. In 2010, Madeleine’s oldest sibling, Crown Princess Victoria, married Daniel Westling. That event, coupled with the birth of Princess Estelle, helped improve the ceremonial monarchy’s image, which was soured by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
The two reportedly have a troubled relationship, with a 2010 book alleging that the king had an affair and frequently visited strip clubs. In response to the allegations, he said: “I have talked with my family and the queen. We turn the page and look forward.”
