Possible Opening Date For Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge At Walt Disney World Based On What We Know [Opinion]

It is one of the biggest expansions ever built at both Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort, and it’s also one of the most highly anticipated, too. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open on both coasts later this year with the California version opening up first. We don’t know exactly when the version at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open, but a number of hints and other clues have been dropped to give us an idea of when in the fall it will debut.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently revealed that Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland is going to open in June, but he didn’t give anything more specific than that. Fans are trying to prepare for when it will open, but that’s still a four-week span to try and guess at.

Over in Central Florida, Galaxy’s Edge will be opening later in the year in Walt Disney World, but when is it going to happen? While there is absolutely no way of knowing when it will open until Disney makes that official announcement, let’s take a look at the clues and hints that have been dropped.

From ‘Late Fall 2019’ To ‘Fall 2019’

Ever since Galaxy’s Edge was announced at all, Disney had said that it would open at WDW sometime in “late fall 2019.” With the first day of winter being December 21, many figured it would be sometime in November or December, but that all changed on Christmas Day.

During the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, Disney quietly changed it to just fall and dropped “late” off of the opening season as reported by Inquisitr. So, that means it could open anytime from September 23 through December 21, but no, things were not made harder by this.

Dates For Free Dining At Walt Disney World

Some may think that changing the opening season to just fall of 2019 would make things harder, but that isn’t the case. On January 2, 2019, Walt Disney World surprised everyone by releasing their “Free Disney Dining” discount about four months earlier than usual and started the travel dates earlier, too.

Dates begin in early July and the final travel date eligible for the discount is September 30, 2019. That is a pretty good indicator that Galaxy’s Edge will not open before September 30, and there are a couple of good reasons for that.

First of all, Disney is not going to give great discounts for dates they won’t have trouble filling resort rooms. When Galaxy’s Edge opens, you’ll be lucky to find a regular-priced room anywhere.

Disney simply won’t need the assistance of a discount to bring in guests for that time. Resorts are going to be filled up and Galaxy’s Edge is going to be the reason that people are there.

Going along with Disney not needing help bringing in guests, the same can be said for most holidays. Halloween brings in some crowds except they aren’t over-the-top numbers, but October is a rather steady month.

Thanksgiving falls on November 28 this year, and that is always a busy time at Walt Disney World.

Opening date For ‘Star Wars Episode IX’

On December 20, 2019, Star Wars Episode IX is going to open in theaters, per Digital Spy, and you know that Disney wants to build up the promotion for that movie. Sure, no Star Wars film needs a lot of help selling tickets, but you don’t think a whole land devoted to the franchise won’t get people hyped up?

Possible Opening Date Guess

There really is no way of actually knowing when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but there are plenty of clues with which to play. When taking into account the discount, holidays, and the new movie, it would not be surprising if Walt Disney World’s version opened sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving 2019.

Of course, your guess is as good as mine and only someone using “The Force” could possibly know the opening date ahead of time.
