A lot of people were hoping that the new year would be a fresh start and not replicate the insane number of celebrities who died in 2018. Unfortunately, things aren’t going nearly as they hoped and January 2, 2019, has been an incredibly hard day with which to deal. Three well-known celebrities passed away on Wednesday, and that’s a lot for any day, but things were a little strange as all three of them were the exact same age.

Early on Wednesday, legendary WWE interviewer “Mean” Gene Okerlund passed away, as reported by the Inquisitr. A few hours later, it was revealed that comedic actor Bob Einstein aka Super Dave had also died. As Tuesday evening rolled in, news came out that “Captain” Daryl Dragon of singing group Captain & Tennille had also died.

Reports of three celebrity deaths in about an eight-hour period — and all three of them died at the age of 76.

They often say that things “come in threes,” and that is usually what everyone waits for when a celebrity passes away. On January 2, 2019, the three deaths all came in very quick succession, but it’s just so strange that all of them were the exact same age.

It may be too early to tell, but could the age of 76 end up falling into the same category as the 27 Club?

For those who may not be aware of it, the 27 Club is the name given to the group of musicians who didn’t all just die too young but at the age of 27. History made a list of the untimely deaths, and it is just too freakishly coincidental that so many successful musicians had their lives ended so very early and all at the same age.

Here are just some of those in the 27 Club:

  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Kurt Cobain
  • Jim Morrison
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Janis Joplin
  • Robert Johnson
  • Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson
  • Brian Jones
  • Ron “Pigpen” McKernan

Wilson, Hendrix, and Joplin all died in the same year in 1970 and within two months (September for Wilson and Hendrix, October for Joplin). By the summer of 1971, Morrison had also lost his life to a heart attack which was reportedly caused by a heroin overdose.

Sure, three celebrities all dying at the age of 76 and on one day in January of 2019 may not end up going anywhere, but it sure is a weird coincidence. Of course, it’s all been quite difficult for fans of Mean Gene, Super Dave Osborne, and Captain & Tennille to take.

By the evening of January 2, 2019, Gene Okerlund’s cause of death was still not known, Bob Einstein ended up dying from cancer with which he was recently diagnosed. Daryl Dragon passed away due to renal failure and TMZ reports he was in hospice care at the time of his death.

Two celebrities losing their lives at the same age on the same day was one thing, but people really started taking notice by the time it happened to Daryl Dragon.

Right now, there is no such thing as a Club 76 or some sort of conspiracy theory that more celebrities will start being lost at that age. The 27 Club has actually spanned more than a century, and it’s just weird that it keeps happening so often. On January 2, 2019, the world lost “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Bob Einstein, and Daryl Dragon on a day that many will now start to dread. Let’s just hope that it is one weird coincidence.

Oh, and don’t spend your time Googling up all celebrities to see who is close to or already 76-years-old. You’re going to drive yourself insane.
