If you had any doubt about President Donald Trump’s hatred for Muslims, those doubts must surely have been removed by his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Yesterday, Reuters reported that Trump’s ban on people from Muslim-majority countries entering the U.S. had been upheld by the Supreme Court, even as challenges continue in lower courts. Trump insists that the move is essential to protect Americans from Muslim extremist terrorism.

Today, it is being widely reported that Trump is set to fly in the face of world opinion by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. As CNN reports, Trump will today announce the decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and shift the U.S. embassy to the city from Tel Aviv. Trump’s move overturns 70 years of U.S. foreign policy and, at a stroke, wrecks any hopes of a “two-state” solution in the region.

As reported by BBC News, Trump’s decision makes the United States the first country on the planet to support Israeli claims on Jerusalem and is in effect “the kiss of death” for the Middle East peace process. The subject of Jerusalem is hugely controversial in the Arab world. Israel annexed the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, during the 1967 six day war, a move that created a crisis in the region that has not been resolved.

As reported by the Independent, Palestinian spokesman Manuel Hassassian said that President Trump’s move means that he is “effectively declaring war on 1.5 billion Muslims and hundreds of millions of Christians.”

“[Trump] is declaring war in the Middle East, he is declaring war against 1.5 billion Muslims [and] hundreds of millions of Christians that are not going to accept the holy shrines to be totally under the hegemony of Israel.”

The city of Jerusalem is the site of some of the most important holy sites in both the Muslim and Christain faiths, so recognizing the Jewish states claimed dominion over the city is massively controversial. Even the Times of Israel brands Trump’s move as controversial. They point out that Pope Francis has condemned Trump, saying that he “cannot silence my deep concern” over the issue. “Jerusalem is a unique city, sacred for Jews, Christians, and Muslims,” and it holds a “special vocation for peace.”

The reality is a simple one. The United Nations, the European Union, China, Russia, and the United Kingdom all oppose Donald Trump on this issue. Leaders across the Arab world have condemned Trump and warned that his action will raise tension in the Middle East to new heights. Trump’s decision risks the already fragile peace between Palestine and Israel and is certain to spark violent protest across the region.

The reality seems to be that Donald Trump doesn’t care about the effect of his decision. Perhaps Trump is hoping that sparking conflict in the Middle East will divert attention from his problems at home. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has warned President Trump that this decision amounts to the “complete destruction of the peace process.”

With the possible exception of the Israeli prime minister, there isn’t a single world leader who supports Trump’s decision. This provides further evidence that Donald Trump is a narcissistic megalomaniac who cannot accept that he is totally out of step with world opinion. Trump is willing to risk global conflict to fan his own ego. Donald Trump is driven only by his hatred of the Muslim and Arab worlds and is on a personal crusade against Muslims.

We can only hope that Robert Mueller will prove to be the white knight who brings down this mentally disturbed and dangerous president and restores some sanity in the White House.
