You have to hand it to Taylor Swift. She tried to make herself into the humble and saintly young woman everybody could look up to. Needless to say, that caused a ridiculous backlash. Taylor Swift was soon a target for the SJW crowd, who crowned her as the “Queen of White Privilege,” the “Queen of White Feminism,” and other titles she never asked for. Taylor’s success scared a lot of people.
In her fantastic video for “Look What You Made Me Do,” Ms. Swift performed a hilarious self-parody. In her new video for her smashing single “Ready For It?” one can’t tell if Swift is doing another self-parody or if she’s trying to convey a hidden message. It’s a bunch of special effects that makes one scratch their head. But it’s also hilarious, enjoyable, and makes the viewer want to watch it over and over.
“Ready For It?” is a combination of The Matrix, Blade Runner, and Prometheus, with a little bit of Star Wars thrown in for the awesome confusion. Taylor Swift is dressed up like a “girl from the hood” and acts all gangsta — something she has to know will bring her racial criticism, even though she’s obviously not being serious. Soon, Taylor Swift from the Block comes in contact with Taylor Swift the cyborg in a nude suit. She then turns into a warrior, which is followed by an appearance on top of a white fantasy horse. Then, they engage in a hilariously pretentious battle. It doesn’t matter who wins; it just matters that you pay attention to it.
The video, as predicted, has received mixed reviews. Mike Nied of Idolator says the clip is high on effects but low on plot. In their sarcastic review, Vulture claims that the message is that Taylor Swift can be anything she wants, as long at it’s computer generated. There were a lot of people criticizing Taylor Swift’s nude body suit, which, as the Daily Mail reports, Swift clapped back at.
Swift’s video already has almost 14 million views, and it hasn’t even been out for a full day. Her last video broke all streaming records and continues to be a huge hit on YouTube. Meanwhile, as Billboard reports, Swift has another hit on her hands, However, according to Billboard, it is next week’s No. 1 seller.
“‘Gorgeous,’ the third song unveiled from Taylor Swift’s album Reputation, due Nov. 10, should soar in at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Digital Song Sales chart dated Nov. 11, with more than 60,000 downloads sold in the tracking week ending Oct. 26, based on preliminary data.”
