While Jay Leno owns a 1969 Dodge Challenger which Jay said was only good for going fast “in a straight line,” it seems famous blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd disagrees about the old Dodge Charger and Challenger muscle cars. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is obsessed with the 1969 Dodge Charger.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd who just turned 40 last June according to Mercury, grew up in the Dukes of Hazzard era. Kenny Wayne fell in love with the 1969 Dodge Charger known affectionately as “The General.”

The 1969 Charger was made famous in the 1980s CBS television show. The Dukes of Hazzard aired on CBS from 1979 until 1985 and featured some incredible stunt driving, mostly done in the 1969 Dodge Charger.

Jay Leno’s 1969 Dodge Challenger has a Hemi engine, but Jay admits the 440 engine most common in the 1969 Dodge Charger, was a far better street engine. Leno has a point. The 44o engine was one of the most powerful and responsive engines of its day, and the 440 Dodge Charger is still pretty impressive.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd, like Jay Leno, says he’s gotten into car collecting, but in 2015 Kenny Wayne only owned nine cars, one of which is a 1969 Charger. Car collecting is new for Kenny Wayne Shepherd who’s only been collecting for a few years. Jay Leno has an extensive collection.

Jay Leno complained the 1969 Dodge Challenger did not come with air conditioning. Jay Leno didn’t mention it, but many 1969 Dodge Chargers did come equipped with factory air.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd has a 1969 Dodge Charger, painted to look like the General Lee. Kenny Wayne Shepherd recalls playing Bo Duke when he was a kid, climbing in and out of car windows, like John Schneider who portrayed the legendary role.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd enjoyed the resemblance to John Schneider “with the blond hair and all,” but the resemblance didn’t stop there. Kenny Wayne Shepherd definitely has that face as well, and Bo Duke became a part of Shepherd’s early childhood self-image.

Jay Leno has a vast collection of cars, including many muscle cars, but for Kenny Wayne Shepherd his 1969 Dodge Charger is his ultimate fantasy car.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd says in the video that driving his 1969 Dodge Charger was living out his childhood dream.

“It’s kinda like fulfilling a childhood fantasy to be able to drive one.”
