‘Fear The Walking Dead’: With Ofelia And Daniel Back Is The Spinoff Now Better Than The Original? [Opinion]

Season 3 of Fear The Walking Dead is heating up. As the new season on Fear The Walking Dead began, key characters were missing. Ofelia Salazar was missing in action, her mother Griselda dead, and her father Daniel believed dead after a fire. Fans may have believed that the Salazar family was set for a wipeout in the post-apocalyptic Zombie drama. Not so, according to Dave Erickson, co-creator of Fear The Walking Dead. According to Fansided, Erickson told Entertainment Weekly, that both Daniel and Ofelia Salazar were set to return to the show.

Daniel Salazar was last seen trapped in a burning room with a host of zombies for company. Of course, we didn’t see Daniel die, so perhaps a return was always in the cards — a fact that Erickson alluded to in his interview.

“We’ve said publicly that [Daniel] didn’t die in the fire. And I think what was always important is that the characters, specifically Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), thought they had lost him.”

“I think his return is long overdue, and I can promise that Daniel Salazar will rise again over the course of the season.”

As reported by Uproxx, Daniel’s return happened in this week’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead. Sporting burn injuries from the fire, Daniel limps into Tijuana and is saved from a walker by a man named Efrain. It turns out that Efrian has control of the only source of clean water in the city that isn’t controlled by warlords. This will doubtless lead to the battle for resources that has become a staple in both Fear The Walking Dead, and the original show.

So Daniel Is Back On ‘Fear The Walking Dead,’ But Where Is Ofelia?

As reported by Comic Book, we last saw Ofelia Salazar in the Season 2 finale of Fear the Walking Dead. She was found wandering by the Otto family, and shot at in the desert. Ofelia was presumably captured by Jeremiah Otto, but when Madison Clark arrived at the Otto family’s ranch, Ofelia is not there.

This could mean that Ofelia escaped, or that she is being held captive by Otto, in an unknown location. Either way, Daniel believes that Ofelia is still alive. With Ofelia still missing and her whereabouts unknown, the internet has been having some fun with Fear The Walking Dead meme’s, the hashtag #WhereisOfelia.

What we do know, is that Mercedes Mason is currently filming for Fear The Walking Dead, so Ofelia’s return to the show can’t be far away.

Interestingly, Forbes is somewhat effusive in its praise for Fear The Walking Dead, they claim that the writing is so good, that the spinoff is now better than the original. What do you think, has The Walking Dead now been surpassed by the spin-off? Let us know in the comments below.
