While fans await Game of Thrones Season 7, it is not without its fair share of debate. Ever since Game of Thrones Season 6 ended, fans have been wildly speculating about the love lives of its central characters.
Shortly after the Season 6 finale, Game of Thrones theories abounded. Many of which placed Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in a political marriage with his sister/biological first cousin, Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner). Those theories seemed to strengthen with every think piece surrounding it, despite a number of fans expressing great distress at the thought.
As information on Season 7 has grown more prominent, the original heat behind the Jon Snow/Sansa marriage theory seems to have flamed out. That is because some fans have set their sights on another woman for Jon Snow – his aunt Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). When Season 6 ended, Game of Thrones had set the Mother of Dragons and Jon Snow on a collision course.
When Season 7 begins, Jon Snow is the King in the North, while Daenerys will have made major headway in her bid to become the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Daenerys set sail for Westeros in the Season 6 finale.
A huge revelation threatens to change everything in Game of Thrones Season 7
Unbeknownst to either of them, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) learned a remarkable truth in that same episode. A truth that could change everything Jon Snow and Daenerys have gone into Season 7 believing.
In the Season 6 finale, Bran learned that Jon Snow is actually Ned Stark’s nephew, the son of Ned’s sister Lyanna and presumably Rhaegar Targaryen. Rhaegar was the older brother of Daenerys Targaryen. If Jon Snow is Rhaegar’s legitimate son, his claim supersedes Daenerys’, making Jon the rightful heir to the Seven Kingdoms, not her.
Many believe that before either Jon Snow or Daenerys learn this information they will embark on a romance. Will it be that simple? Will two of Game of Thrones‘ most popular characters get together, even though they are related?
Is Daenerys ready for romance in Game of Thrones Season 7?
Game of Thrones Season 6 ended with Daenerys discussing the possibility of forging a marriage alliance in the near future. However, in a new interview with Style Magazine, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke shed some potential light on where Daenerys’ romantic headspace is in Season 7.
“I think that she has ultimately put aside her own need for a man,”
“She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birthright that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable with.”
If Daenerys does not want to share her title with her husband, imagine how she will feel when it comes out that the Iron Throne might not actually be her birthright? That she has been fighting seven seasons for a throne she never had the right to inherit? It is a bitter pill and plot twist only a series like Game of Thrones would put its central character through swallowing.
Warning: Game of Thrones Season 7 spoilers are below.
As Game of Thrones spoiler aficionados well know, and the Inquisitr previously reported, Jon Snow will meet Daenerys in Game of Thrones Season 7. The question is whether that meeting will actually enact anything of the romantic variety between Jon and Daenerys.
If Jon Snow and Daenerys were to become romantic in Season 7, it seems highly likely that Jon would end it after learning of their biological connection. Because let’s face it, Jon Snow would not go for incest. It conflicts with everything Game of Thrones has shown about his moral compass.
Plus, Jon has not seemed that interested in looking for romanc. Unlike Daenerys, Jon has not discussed marriage or anything of the sort.
Even though marriage is available to him for the first time in his adult life, ever since he fulfilled his ultimate duty to the Night’s Watch and subsequently left the order. With the threat of the White Walkers looming large, it makes sense that Jon does not have romance on his mind.
As for Daenerys, her being attracted to Jon is difficult to imagine. He is a good guy and Daenerys has been relentlessly pursued by them in the past to no avail. So what is it about Jon Snow that would make his fate any different than her past suitors? Fans will just have to wait and see. Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO.
