Johnny Depp just received a huge honor, and not only that, it’s going to be really fun. It may not be that coveted but elusive Oscar, but it’s probably going to be a lot more exciting than the red carpet. Depp is going to be honored at Glastonbury.
The Glastonbury Festival actually doesn’t have much in the way of carpet at all. For those not familiar with the event, it’s an outdoor festival that’s a lot like Woodstock, except in England. They have the festival every year, and there will be music, movies, food, and a lot of fun. England rocks.
Johnny Depp will be the honored guest for the Cineramageddon film stage at the Glastonbury Festival. That means he will select the films. Depp might just slip down to the music stages at Glastonbury when he gets a chance. Maybe Johnny Depp can get in on a jam session with fellow musicians at the festival?
The first Glastonbury Festival was held in 1970, and since 1981, it has been an annual event. Festival goers camp in tents, listen to music, watch films, and visit various shops and vendors on site.
Guests at Glastonbury apparently play in the mud just like Woodstock. Unlike Woodstock, the Glastonbury Festival is still going strong.
Johnny Depp will hopefully have time to explore the other Glastonbury venues and make more musician friends. Depp started his career as a guitarist, but when still in his teens and unable to find steady gigs in Hollywood, Nicolas Cage recommended that Johnny should try acting. Cage even helped Johnny Depp find roles. Many thanks to Mr. Cage.
The Glastonbury Festival is held from June 21 to June 25. Unfortunately for those who don’t have tickets, it is already a sold-out show, according to the event’s official website.
Johnny Depp has already chosen the films he’s going to screen, so for those who don’t have tickets, one could always watch the Johnny Depp movie Libertine, as well as Withnail & I and Dead Man at home while thinking of Johnny and watch live coverage of the Glastonbury Festival on TV.
Johnny Depp explained Libertine this way to the Guardian.
“This is one of those films that got lost in the shuffle. It’s a film on which a lot of people worked very hard, and one that I am very proud of.”
Johnny Depp also stars in Dead Man, a spooky western that is a very artistic black and white film. Johnny will be screening Dead Man at the Glastonbury Festival. Watch it below. Dead Man is an amazing film.
The Glastonbury Festival will be televised live on BBC. Sadly, there is so much going on at the same time at Glastonbury that it would be impossible to catch the entire festival; there are to be over 60 music venues alone. The festival line-up is far too extensive to list in this article, but their lineup is shown here on the official website.
Johnny Depp’s movies will be shown in full on the huge screens of the Cineramageddon cinema stage.
Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis recently described the drive-in movie-style Cineramageddon cinema stage where Johnny Depp will be screening films to the Guardian.
“We’ve got a massive film screen and 100 60s American and Cuban cars. We’ve put them all in straight lines, so you can sit in the cars, watch the films and the sound comes into the cars by a little Bluetooth thingy on the wing mirror. Julien Temple is doing all the film choices. This is the biggest thing of the year.”
