Donald Trump is under attack by internet trolls once more for his supposed “disgraceful behavior” and “childish antics” during the Memorial Day festivities. The so-called “toddler President” was all smiles swaying and singing along to the national anthem during a usually solemn event.
Trump was at Arlington Cemetery on Monday to pay tribute to all the soldiers who lost their lives for the country. The president was joined by Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of Defense James Mattis, Secretary of Homeland Security Gen. John F. Kelly, and other leaders of the nation during the Memorial Day event.
Trump, who was standing beside Gen. Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford, started swaying around and tapping his chest with his right hand while “The Star-Spangled Banner” played. The president then started singing along to portions of the national anthem. In complete contrast, Mattis was standing still with his hand on his chest while Dunford was giving the salute.
Time reported that Trump addressed the families of the fallen soldiers after the national anthem. In his speech, the president expressed his gratitude for the service given by the “men and women who paid the ultimate price for victory and freedom.” Trump also honored Army Spc. Christopher Horton, Special Forces Capt. Andrew Byers, and Marine 1st Lt. Robert Kelly, as well as their Gold Star families. Kelly was the son of the secretary of Homeland Security.

Trump visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier earlier in the morning and led the Memorial Day tradition of placing a wreath to honor the nameless soldiers who were killed overseas.
The night before the Memorial Day event, Trump tweeted, “I look forward to paying my respects to our brave men and women on this Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery later this morning.”
His behavior during the national anthem was seen by many as the opposite of paying one’s respect. As a matter of fact, the unforgiving Twitterverse was at it again and trolling the president for his actions.
One Twitter user said that he was “beyond sad” and “embarrassed for this country” after seeing Trump make “an idiot out of himself.” Another described Trump as a “drunk senile old uncle” and a “national embarrassment.”
Some poked fun at how Trump was seemingly unable to remember the words to the song.
Hahaha trump...he forgot words to Star Spangled Banner, making big show singing along. At least he tried— Lori King (@1loriking) May 29, 2017
The outspoken head of state’s controversial body language was on full display during his nine-day trip abroad in which he rubbed elbows with other dignitaries from around the world. As expected, Trump was met with controversy everywhere he went.
He paid a visit to Pope Francis where a photograph of him smiling beside a forlorn-looking pope made the rounds. His prolonged and tense handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron was described by the latter as “not innocent” and a “moment of truth.”
Later in his trip, a photo opportunity during the G7 meeting saw Trump shoving Montenegro Prime Minister Dusko Markovic to get a spot in the front row. This action did not sit well with many as Trump supposedly showed his arrogant side during the incident.
And then there’s First Lady Melania Trump’s apparent refusal to hold hands with the U.S. President in full view of the press. In Rome, Melania fixed her hair as Trump was about to hold her hand after they were getting off Air Force One. In another instance, Melania swatted Trump’s hand away as he reached back for her hand. This happened while they were walking the red carpet with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife.
At the Memorial Day event, Trump and his strange body language were again put in the spotlight. While many are trolling him for his singing and swaying, there are still a few who see nothing wrong with his actions.
