Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are one of the favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 52. They have been one of the favorites in the NFC for quite some time. Ted Thompson believes that they have made the necessary moves to take the next step this year, after coming up just short to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship Game last season.
Green Bay went out and added star tight end Martellus Bennett in free agency, while also adding a solid No. 2 tight end in Lance Kendricks. They also signed Ricky Jean-Francois to help a defensive line that struggled against the run last season. Re-signing Nick Perry was a priority heading into the season, and the Packers were able to get the job done while also re-signing Jayrone Elliott.
In the draft, the Packers hope that they brought in the defensive help that they needed last season. Kevin King was drafted with the first pick of the second round and is expected to develop into the Packers’ top cornerback. Green Bay went defense with their next two picks as well, bringing in defensive back Josh Jones and defensive tackle Montravius Adams.
Needless to say, the upcoming season appears to be full of excitement for Green Bay fans. If the Packers can live up to their full potential, they will be a championship contender.
All of that being said, what five reasons can be given to support the statement that the Green Bay Packers will win the NFC North division title?
The Simple Presence of Aaron Rodgers
First and foremost, the presence of Aaron Rodgers is the biggest reason why the Packers will win the NFC North. Whenever a team has the best quarterback in the league, they have a good chance to win their division. Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time and will lead his team to yet another divisional title.
Much Needed Improvement in the Secondary
Perhaps the biggest issue for the Packers last season was the defensive secondary struggles that they had. They faced some injuries throughout the season, but it became clear that Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins cannot lead the secondary on their own. Kevin King and Josh Jones are both extremely talented playmakers and will immediately improve the Green Bay secondary.
Electric Weapons for Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers will be playing with what could very well be the best targets he has ever had. Martellus Bennett will add a different dynamic, while the Packers still have Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, and more for him to utilize. Add in the improved running back position and the Packers have put a lot of talent around Rodgers.
Star-Studded Pass Rushing
Even with the departure of Julius Peppers, the Packers should be very confident in their pass rush. Clay Matthews is still a star pass rusher, while Nick Perry is one of the best up-and-coming pass rushers in the league. Green Bay’s defense has a lot of speed, and they will find ways to get to the quarterback early and often each and every week.
Many fans and media members were calling for head coach Mike McCarthy to be fired last season, but the team decided not to go in that direction. Green Bay has valued team chemistry, which is one of the most underrated aspects in sports. There are very few teams with the chemistry that the Packers have, and that will play a role this season in winning the division.
Expect to see the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings give the Packers a run for their money. Chicago is a ways off, but they aren’t going to be a pushover win this year either. Green Bay is simply the best team on paper and should take care of business to take home another division title.
