Johnny Depp’s Pirates Of The Caribbean co-stars Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, And Kaya Scodelario have spoken to the press about Depp. Each explained what it is like to co-star with Depp in the iconic role of Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean is awe-inspiring according to Javier Bardem and Brenton Thwaites, while Kaya Scodelario finds him inspirational and a bit educational as well. Javier, Brenton, and Kaya explained the joys and difficulties of working so close to a legend like Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Javier Bardem says he is “a joy to work with,” Javier is quoted in The Record. Even so, Bardem had to admit it was hard to stay focused on his job when working with the iconic Jack Sparrow.
“He’s playing this character he knows so well that sometimes, the difficult part is to not be a spectator. Sometimes I was shooting with him and I was watching how he became Sparrow and it was a delight. And then it’s like, ‘S**t! I have to say my line.'”
Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Brenton Thwaites was completely awe-stricken at the very idea of looking at the real Jack Sparrow face to face. Brenton is quoted in the Daily Mail explaining that Johnny Depp doesn’t break character or change out of his costume during filming.
“I never really saw him out of costume.”
Johnny Depp’s persona as the iconic Jack Sparrow can be quite overwhelming. Brenton Thwaites, who portrays the son of Orlando Bloom’s character Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean, told Entertainment Weekly he was terrified as he waited for his three minutes on camera with Johnny Depp as the legendary Jack Sparrow.
“I remember that I was really terrified as if I had never played in my life before shooting this scene I remember saying to me ‘how I’m going to stand and talk to Johnny Depp for three minutes, face a character with whom I grew up? It will not be possible.”
Johnny Depp is nice though, even when he is deeply into being Jack Sparrow all the time, according to Brenton Thwaites. Johnny Depp was able to put young Brenton’s mind at ease on camera as the two actors shot a scene for Pirates of the Caribbean.
‘He’s a really cool, sweet guy,’
Does Johnny Depp really use an earpiece for prompting his lines? Brenton Thwaites was quick to debunk that story. Brenton says it is “impossible,” from what he observed. Thwaites is quoted in Stuff.
“Johnny’s too impulsive to do that, every take is different,”
Johnny Depp, like so many great actors, does ad lib a lot. So when Depp is portraying Jack Sparrow, he doesn’t even recite lines word for word, nor would he want to. No, there is no highly paid technician whispering in his ear as Johnny works on the Pirates of the Caribbean set. Some of those recent TGM stories, like the earpiece rumor, are being debunked, this time by Brenton Thwaites.
Brenton Thwaites was actually on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean. He worked with Johnny Depp closely, and he says the earpiece story just isn’t true. Furthermore, he describes Johnny Depp as “cool” and “sweet.”
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 actress Kaya Scodelario is quoted in Digital Spy saying that she found Johnny Depp inspirational to work with.
“We were just lying on a piece of green screen and we had to pretend to be falling. I didn’t know what the f**k I was going to do, and I looked over to him and as soon as they said ‘action’ he was just completely committed, he didn’t care if it made him look silly or weird or strange. That inspired me to let go and get out of my mind.”
